Science-Narrative Explorations of “Drought Thresholds” in the Maritime Eden Catchment, Scotland: Implications for Local Drought Risk Management

چکیده
Drought in the United Kingdom is a “hidden” pervasive risk, defined and perceived different ways by diverse stakeholders sectors. Scientists water managers distinguish meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, socio-economic drought. Historically triggers drought risk management have been demarcated solely specialist hydrological science terms using indices critical thresholds. This paper explores “drought thresholds” as bridging concept for interdisciplinary science-narrative enquiry. The Eden catchment, Scotland acts an exemplar, maritime country wet. research forms part of creative experimentation methods played out seven case-study catchments on hydro-meteorological gradients Risk You (DRY) project, with agricultural most northerly. DRY explored how stories might be brought together to support better decision-making management. involved comparing catchment-scale modelling evidence gathered from local narratives perceptions/experiences. Drought triggers and declarations: Science and policy considerations for drought risk management
This paper explores the value of triggers and declarations in the management of drought, bringing together two disciplinary perspectives, those of the public policy scholar and the climate scientist. These two perspectives highlight the complexity of the development and use of triggers in drought risk management by drawing on the experience of the United States, which has the most sophisticated...

15 صفحه اولRisk assessment and drought management in the Thames basin*
A risk assessment procedure is described for use in managing a system of pumped-storage reservoirs in the Thames basin during a drought. Historical daily rainfall sequences are used as equi-probable scenarios of future rainfall. These are transformed to flow, reservoir level, and demand restriction sequences through the use of rainfall-runoff and water resource system models. The risk assessmen...
